Griphomyia gen. nov. with G. gravicaudata sp. nov. as type species, is described from rainforest in soutbem Thailand. Although it possesses a stalked hypopygium which is considered as an ancestral feature, the presence of symmetrically sclerotized pseudotracheae, denticulate epipharyngeal prongs, and a wing boss, ali indicate that the new genus is qui te derived. The morphology of the male gen italia places it rather in the Peloropeodinae with encapsulated hypopygiwn thau in the Sympycninae with an apical, sessile hypopygiurn. DIPTERA, GRIPHOMYIA N.
