The subject of the paper is the history of the creation and performance of one of the last compositions of Alexander Glazunov, the Concerto for Saxophone-Alto and String Orchestra, and presents the unpublished materials of the correspondence between the composer and Sigurd Rascher, who was the first performer of this composition.

The paper studies the phenomenon of hidden meaning, the subtext that exists in any artificial, and accordingly, in any musical text. The second plan, in whole, multiplies the general meaning and works in the sam e direction. Penetration into the meaning of music is carried out through the intonational «program» that binds all the processes. Intonation thinking of the epoch defines the evocation of its philosophical and aesthetic ideas. Intonational process is responsible for everything that happens in the musical text, including for the forma tion of the second plan.
