Researches some questions of social history from points of view of the representatives of liberal Soviet intelligentsia of 1960 years. As examples the books by A. Solzhenitsyn «The Oak and the Calf» and R. Orlova's memories were considered. The author makes the following conclusion: the understanding of social history is determined by the philosophical and ethical positions of these writers. Solzhenitsyn has the position of the rational positivism, Orlova has one of existential tragedy. These directions in the interpretation of social history problems were so typical for Soviet intelligentsia of 1960 years
