Methods most frequently applied to assess and evaluate the shadow economy are researched. The author argues that an unbiased assessment of the shadow economy can be made by holistic application of different methods.

Socioeconomic problems linked with the production sector of UIS Penal Enforcement System over the post-Soviet period are researched. The authors justify their opinion that, under de-industrialization of the country, multiple measures taken to reform this sector have been inefficient, and the export- and raw-oriented economic model evolved in society is the main factor, which predetermines its imminent stagnation.
