The article presents the review of materials of the international scientific conference “Economic system of modern Russia: ways and development goals”. During the conference there was extensive discussion about the economic system of modern Russia, the revival and development of the real sector of the economy based on new technologies, the transformation of a rent-based economy in the innovation economy by re-industrialization, the problem of economic security of Russia in the conditions of external and internal threats. Identified and justified the need for a substantial increase in regulatory activity of the state in modern conditions.
The article analyzes the pension reform implemented in Russia in 2013-2014, provides the modeling of possible pensions, determines the efficiency boundaries for the use of insurance and savings-insurance schemes offered by the Pension Fund of Russia. The author examines the activities and effectiveness in managing pension savings and reserves from non-state pension funds, especially the system of voluntary savings insurance. The study identifies the challenges faced by these financial institutions, which constrain the development of the Russian pension system. Drawing on logical and econometric analysis the author identifies the competitive opportunity for banks to participate in the Pension Benefits Act, calculates the proposals’ efficiency for future retirees and the banking system as a whole, determines the contribution of the proposed solutions to enhanced competition and more competitive banking environment.

The authors consider Macroeconomics as a set of interrelateol research programmes which incorporates such schools of thought as Neoclassical, Keynesian, Neoclassical synthesis, Monetarism, New Classical and New Keynesian. This approach has a number of competitive advantages over a standard course and provides new opportunities for researchers, academics, entrepreneurs and students of economic theory.
The article is dedicated to the memory of an outstanding scholar and economist, Nikolai Tsagolov, the 110 anniversary of his birth. Special emphasis is paid to the role of methodology in the development of a new paradigm of economic theory and methodological seminar as an essential tool for processing theorists’ factual material, which was effectively used by N. Tsagolov. The article describes the structure of the methodological seminar for many years operating at the department of political economy of the Economics faculty of Moscow State University. The author emphasizes the collective nature of scientific work aimed at rational organization of labor. Attention is also drawn to the risks inherent in the widespread use of methodological techniques as well as the issues which require the attention of social theorists.
The article examines the contradictions of the Russian economy in the context of the federal law “On the strategic planning in the Russian Federation”. The contradictory nature of planning on the way to market development is noted. It is emphasized that planning while maintaining the dominance of private capitalist ownership of the means of production does not entirely solve the problem of bringing the economy onto the path of sustainable development.
The article discusses the reason for underestimating the use of mathematical methods in demographic courses for economists. The juxtaposition of population theories and methods of demographic analysis and the denial of so-called “formal demography” is a dead-end path that leads to a decreasing quality of training in an increasingly quantitative format of economic education. The paper discusses the options for teaching demographic courses in bachelor’s and master’s programs and demonstrates the need to move from a single compulsory course to a set of electives with demographic content, designed for students with different levels of mathematical training and diverse professional interests.
This paper studies the views on inter-firm networking performed on the basis of two interrelated publications of Russian scientists, that of a textbook and a monograph. The analysis of these works has shown that there is a possibility and the need to use in pedagogical process the teaching materials of the same high scientific level (without any simplification) as that of a monograph. It is assumed that such an approach would generate the systemic thinking in students of economics and management.
