Emotional Constituent of “Counter-text” as a Meaning Producing Element in Text and Meaning Theory

The article is devoted to the results of psycholinguistic research aimed at studying perception and comprehension mechanisms. Using the method originally suggested by A.I. Novikov the individual recipients' reactions have been analyzed. These reactions constitute the so-called “counter-text”. The experimental results and their classification reveal the unique character of emotional constituent in the process of meaning generation.

Gender Distinction Perception of Values

This paper examines gender differences in perception of human values. The semantic differential (SD) technique by Charles E. Osgood was used for the purposes of this research. Through the data analysis two clustering dendrograms were created, both for men and women. The analysis of two dendrograms enabled to see some similarities and differences in perception of human values between two genders. In addition, it showed the hierarchy of semantic network in evaluation of stimuli. Moreover, the semantic space was constructed and the factor analysis method was used for gender matrixes.

“Lexicographical” and “Psycholinguistic” Representation of Meanings: Search for a Match

The understanding of language as a peculiar worldview (Weltansicht) or the picture of the world, which is one of the fundamental concepts in the Humboldtian philosophy of language was first clearly expressed in the work of J.G. Herder. His ideas of an intimate dependence of thought on language and therefore of language as a condition for the perception and cognition of the world mean that there are so many worldviews, so many languages and that the nation and its culture are linguistically defined. Herder's philosophy of language inspired W. von Humboldt to establish modern linguistics.

Semantics in the ontogenesis of speech

In the paper, some disputable and unresolved problems of the psycholinguistic theory of semantics are considered. Besides, the sources of semantics in the ontogenesis of speech and the cognitive mechanisms of text as a means of communication are presented here.

Single-reference Opined Words and their Formalization (the Case of Ethnophobonyms)

The article deals with a lesser-described lexical class - single-reference opined words. Most often single-reference words are used to demonstrate personal likes or to make accusations of racial, religious or ethnic hatred. The huge number of xenophobic messages on the Internet makes it necessary for forensic linguists to use computerized tools for identification and initial classification of xenophobic cases. We demonstrate various means of opined word usages referring to an unambiguously identified extratext object describing a special case of xenophobia - ethnophobia. The paper also describes a thesauri-based method of finding ethnic hatred cases in text. The place of the ethnophobonymic thesaurus (a database) in a forensic linguist’s toolkit.

S-Theory: Explaining Individual Human Behavior

The socio-behavioral sciences have identified thousands of variables relevant to explaining/predicting human individual behavior, but interdisciplinary and integrative theories linking these are very rare and usually not comprehensive. This paper presents an abbreviated overview of a new, comprehensive, quantitative, consilient, interdisciplinary theory that uses 31 propositions/hypotheses, 50 relevant variables and concepts, and a Basic Behavior Equation (BBE) in various forms that are hypothesized to explain and predict the complexity of nearly all individual human behavior, including sociality and voluntary action. The Concept “Dynamic Object” in Post-non-classical Linguistics

The article discusses the specifics post-non-classical episteme as applied to linguistics and offers a methodological innovation - the dynamic object, which is defined as an interactive self-developing, often politicized Internet phenomenon; observability and objectification of its dynamics is being provided by the technical capabilities of the Internet. The prospects of studying the dynamic object for the diagnosis of ethnic tensions in Internet communication are being shown.

The Prolegomena to the Language Consciousness Theory

The author attempts to clarify the methodological grounds for the language consciousness studies for which the author proposes A. Leont’ev general psychological activity theory. This theory develops the concept of sense cognition and the concept of recognition per se, explaining the sense image. The language consciousness theory is developed to explain the processes of transition from a sense image and a consciousness image to the speech utterance.

В статье дается анализ двух общечеловеческих ценностей: «богатство» и «бедность». Кроме того, рассматривается образ денег в языковом сознании русских. Для анализа ценностей привлекаются толковые словари русского языка, Словарь языковых изменений русского языка, Русский ассоциативный словарь. Кроме того, исследуется образы богатства и бедности в общественном сознании через анализ экспертных статей по данной тематике и социологических опросов общественного мнения носителей языка и культуры. К анализу привлекается Национальный корпус русского языка и паремиологический фонд русского языка. Делается вывод о неоднозначном отношении носителей русского языка и культуры как к богатству, так и бедности. Образ денег также амбивалентен, деньги не представляются русским однозначным благом.
