Haus /das Zuhausе/.

Ushakova Tatiana N., Grigoriev Andrey A., Gavrilova Euginia V., Golysheva Euginia A.

Phenomenon of polysemy was investigated from the cognitive-psycholinguistic position. In the experiments the subjects reproduced the meanings of a polysemic word, as many as they could. The succession of the meanings reproduced, the frequency of their occurrence and their co-ordination were registered. It’s shown that the semantic components (meanings) are functioning accordingly to their capability of activating and resistance to influence. The functional organization of polysemic structure is characterized: the existence of central and peripheral components, “kernel idea”. The storing and activating of semantic elements in the verbal human system is described.

Kotov Alexei A., Kotova Tatiana N., Vlasova Elizabeth F., Agrba Liana

In the present study subjects had to remember items in different conditions: those items were previously marked by either one word or by two words. It turned out that the presence of two different words made subjects less sensitive to individual distinctions between items and consequently resulted in poorer memory on such individual examples. The effect in the one word condition was the opposite. That effect – the intention of the word meaning – points to spontaneous activation of the categorization process in the mere presence of the word and for the first time it was found on artificial material.
