INFLUENCE OF WINTER/CONDITIONS ON SOME INDICES OF ADRtNOCORTICAL FUNCTION IN CERVUS ELAPHUS (ARTIODACTYLA, CERVIDAE)
Antonov A.L.
Concentrations of creatinine and corticosteroid hormones (cortisol and corticosteron) were determined in 37 samples of Cervus elaphus xantopigos urine collected from the snow surface in a cedar-broad-leaved forest of the Ussuri River basin during February-March, 1990 and 1991. Conditions of hibernating animals in the winter of 1990-1991 were more severe than in 1989-1990. The cortisol/creatinine and corticosteron/creatinine indices were respectively 4.3 and 3.3 times higher in 1991 than in 1990.
