Numbers of blood-sucking mosquitos (Diptera, Culicidae) in the forest and tundra biocoenoses of South Yamal

Nikolaeva N.V.

The quantitative estimate of larvae of the genus Aedes was carried out in summer 1972—1974 in the flood-plain of the Khodata River (67° n. 1.). The development of the predominant mass of larvae (mainly A. communis) proceeded in the forest water bodies at the density 1,335—3,423 larvae per 1 m2. The distribution of mosquitos in the tundra water bodies was more equal and the average density amounted to 92—129 per 1 m2. The numbers of mosquitos in different years varied from 32 to 64 thousands per 1 hectar of the forest region and from 5 to 8 thousands per 1 hectar of the tundra region. The data are given on the numbers of different species of mosquitos in different biotopes.
