The authors suggest a new standard and relatively unlaborious method of studying the internal structure of burrows of the great gerbil (Rhombomys opimus Licht.). It consists in measuring the depth of position of underground tracts, food and nest chambers on walls of a trench digged across the burrow through its centre (length of the trench – 10–15 m, width –1.0 m, depth–1.0 m). Some results are given of studying the structure of burrows by means of this method.
